We have no visitors all year and then November BOOM! they all arrive en mass! Anna's mum and Dad arrived from the Philippines to snow in Toks minus Celsius wearing tshirts! Had to kit them out in ski gear for Hakone! They had a Japan rail pass and no hotel bookings on a holiday weekend so couldn't find them the best place to stay in Kyoto but at least managed to book something ok ish for their travels each day. They stayed 2 nights with us and it was like having grandparents Charlize loved them. Then it was a quick change of guard and sheets as the Swedes arrived family of 3 old colleague from SAS knows both cliff and I was there in the same Star Alliance committee when Cliff and I met for the first time! They only in for 3 days and I think the plan I gave them completed exhausted them but they were totally smitten with Tokyo. Their last night we popped to see the amazing lights in Roppongi hills and midtown, all blue and surreal and allowed C stay up till 8ish to come out with us, she was so excited to be out so late at night but feel asleep on the walk home. Took the Scandies to a lovely Japanese restaurant and have a storming set menu 9 courses including shabu shabu and sashimi for bargain price of 3000JPY per person. Its my little secret place where I take all guests who want something Japanese but dont want to drop a small fortune. Monday Buffalo and Goose and their parents arrive flying in from Deli ( told them we don't want Deli belly or swine flu again thanks!) stay 3 days and then Michelle arrives for a week i think. Then a few days mad packing and stressing and its off to NYC on the 21st DEC for Xmas with Dad and Bruver. Looks like Rieko will also come for a few days.
Had a mad cleaning day today and felt exhausted but Cliff made nice pasta for lunch and took C to the park and book off to choose some new bookies and 1 DVD. She choose Monsters incorp..
Had a thanks giving brunch with school however the dinner was supposed to be ready by 11 on the table but turkey still wasn't cooked at 12 and I was supposed to pick c up at 12. Left with a few veggies and pumpkin pie in doggy bag was very HUNGRY!!! Loads of birthday parties and xmas parties to go. Managed to get all the xmas shopping done just have two parcels left to post and cards left to address but will brave the azabu rabbit hole post office with C again armed with my usual bribe of a choco croissant on monday sigh. Oh and the xmas tree is up but no good decorations as they are hiding somewhere in teh basement which will all fall on me should I attempt to retrieve them. C has already taken most of them off so tree looks a bit sado. Oh and got a free double stroller mountain buggy from wealthy expat family who dont want it they gave it to me for free it costs 800 dollars new!!!
Feel sooooo tired so early night as usual like 9pm!!!

Charlize turns 2
What a great party we had at K space on Saturday even though it was postponed by one week because of the flu lurgie and 11 people could not come many down with sickness themselves. Still it was a lovely afternoon although the stress of catering for kids and adults after a massive cotco run nd then ferrying it all between azabu and shiroganedai.. ( remind me to get catering next time!). cliff reckoned the food was not edible anyway. My stuff was only vaguely picked at (I did do crackers with Cheddar cheese and braston pickle!!) but the ordered giant plate of sushi did get scoffed so at least the parents were ok! The kids went mental with pass the parcel and then headed down to the soft gym for a rough and tumble. Around 4:30 we did the cake and Kokomo came in to scare all the kids who like him but not too close!!! Cecila came and helped me and I did just throw away paper stuff ( haughty me) but made life easier. THANK GOD with 40 odd people it was not my house!!

Took C to the docs for my nucal fold test and scan at 13 weeks. C was really into it looking at the baby on the screen and saying baby brother baby sister. It seems that maybe there is something between the legs so 95% a boy. Will know for sure next scan. Cliff is over the moon brought back blue roses and keeps on about now I have a partner in crime and heir to the throne!!!!! Charlize knows what is happening however and reverting to baby mode saying mommy I am a baby can I have milky in bottle..

Busy November
Been a bit slack at keeping this updated this month thanks to the dreaded Swine Flu knocking us off our feet for a week. First C ( remind me that the flu test is a massive stick shoved right up babies nose and not to do that again to the poor munchkin) Then Cliff, but some Tamiflu made him puke violently, and then mommy for 2 days in bed but with sicky husband off for the week to help me thank god and what with Takako downstairs and lovely Emma leaving parcels of chicken noddle and other lovely food on the doorstep, we were very lucky indeed. Nobody wanted Cliff back in the office and the school made me keep Charlize away for almost 2 weeks which was ok as she needed the rest really anyway. It all happened on the eve of Halloween that she started to get sick of all days the special trick and treating day at school where the kids went round the local shops in the wagon collecting pre screened only healthy snack goodie bags! She looked so cute in her Elmo costume sent along with the bumble bee one from Uncle Karl Karl in New York. We also got a ton of toys (Elmo talking doll being the highlight) which she loves and hates at the same time is now trying to get him in a strangle hold after about 20 minutes! She has the Fischer price aeroplane too and is really into role play these days especially the one that involves sitting in a cardboard box with buster cat, kittychan and snoppy ( not elmo he is too big) and then landing in Rome Italy and going to the wendy house which is the hotel where she whips them all up a full English breakfast on grandads cooker before chucking them into the pool which is the giant cushion on the floor! Grandad bought her a lovely wooden cooker for her birthday which she likes to put bad Teddy's in the oven. We got her some lego (not a big hit) and a etch a sketch which is a big hit but she usually commands me to draw whatever anime characters is flavour of the month.
Went to Sakamotos at last and I am now 13 weeks preggers baby due May 27th (so not as far along as I thought and not two which is a bit of a let down as that could have explained my massive 4 kilo pork in the first trimester. The Insurance company darn having to have American insurance, are giving us the run around on what doctors and hospital we can use looks like I might not be able to have sakamoto so might have to seriously consider doing NHS at home. Anyway I am now thinking WHAT WAS I THINKING going for number 2?!!!
Today charklize stayed in school till 1pm for Kokomore as we did the Costco run for the party food and Emma bought loads as did I we only just managed to ram it all in Takakos car. Will have fun doing sausages on sticks etc tomorrow evening but I am just ordering a couple of giant plates of sushi for the adults we have 45 people coming... We had to cancel the party last weekend because school wouldn't let us anywhere near, but now we are good to go and at least its not my house and there is a soft gym for the kids to throw themselves around in. I even managed to get a massive sheet cake all iced with balloons etc to feed 48 for just 2800JPY which is so unbelievable because at Costo as most Japanese bakeries charge 37,000JPY for that size!!! Not sure what it will taste like but it looks ok.
Feeling really really sick still the morning sickness or should I say all day sickness is still going strong. I may capitulate and buy the 17,000JPY for 6 tablet sickness tablets from Sakamoto on monday when I go for the nucal fold test etc.
Oh and Karl my lovely brother has booked us tickets to NYC for Xmas and New Year and is taking us skiing in Vermont for xmas and putting C into ski school. Shame I wont be able to ski... But maybe some books and the hot tub and snow shoeing will suffice.

School Bazaar and TAC breakie
Had a nice few days despite the weird weather from the typhoon. Went to TAC for breakie last day to use the free 2 week membership so was nice to scoff with Louise who brought along now 2 month old Sophie and see Sarah who bought along 2 week old Finn. Rieko tanuki had the day off work so came with us too. Of course she was late as expected but C was happy to have her tease her on the train ride to school. All of us are greedy piggies ordering the continental set plus egg dishes. Did feel mightily sick though the morning sickness or should I say ALL DAY SICKNESS is just as bad as it was with C. Jenny who is 5 months along was feeling sick too but didn't stop her eating through the pain barrier!!! It was a nice catch up. In the afternoon was supposed to go to jyugaoka shopping with Emma as we are NEXT members and we get 30% off right now but C would not wake up from her nap I tried to get her up at 2:30 but she rolled over cried and went back to sleep. I think its the new miffy feather quilt I bought her she loves it!!! Monkey didn't wake up till 4pm so I just called Jenny who walked up the hill with Jamie and came to play for a bit. Charlize was being very very bossy though wouldn't get out of the aeroplane Cliff had made out of a box and kept insisting "Do captain voice mommy now!!!" and kept trying to pinch my nose the bugger to make me sound like the captain!!! This went on for far too long until I lost it and said that the captain was tired and had gone to sleep in his hotel which shut her up for 5 mins. My daughter is the most bossy stubborn child I know bit worrying really have my work cut out..
Saturday today and Cliff took the monster to the park and I did some food shopping. Met up at obika the new mozzarella bar for an expensive but ok lunch. The mozzarella surprisoingly enough comes from Frosinone and Ceccano which is where our summer house is!!! C ate all the mozzarella of course she has expensive taste.. and Rieko joined us late as usual arrived as we were finishing! So Cliff took C back for her nap and I followed a bit later.
This afternoon it was the teacher talent show at school followed by charity bazaar. It was lots of fun Adrian has an AMAZING voice and the teachers went all out to put together some really funny skits. The Nepalese restaurant owners whose boy attends school provided lovely free Nepalese food and Emma, Takako and I helped to flog the cakes on the bake stall along with Takakos amazing flower arrangements that were snapped up quick sharp. Snapped up some chocolate brownies and scones and Michelles banana cake as I have tried her cakes before at her coffee morning they are super scrum. Should keep my cake monsters happy for a few days! but the thought of cake for me makes me wanna up chuck which is a good thing!
Had a massage and C got her face and fingernails painted and ran riot in the gym with Ellie and Sumire with dog ballons chasing each other and going generally nuts. cliff bought me a lovely cashmere black and white scarf and C a funky beanie. We didnt leave until around 6pm it was a fun afternoon. Its a long weekend with Monday a holiday so off to think how we will spend the next few days!

Typhoon Season
So far its been a lovely autumn but this week we have had nothing but rain with torrential gusts forecast for wednesday and thursday which sucks for being able to get out of the house. Staying in usually ends up with Charlize demanding to chain watch movies, her tele addict tendencies I am trying to nip in the bud. Today she was in school in the am and had class picture shoot. Whose bright idea was it to make the youngest Caterpillar class have the white Kokomo t shirt as their uniform!!! Went with Emma and Takako over to Michelle's massive house to talk about the charity that she is single handed running!!! Me I was in it to be nosey and have a free piece of cake and freshly prepped coffee!!! Nice watching the dynamics of the other keen mums trying to do stuff but being shot down by Michelle who had already decided the calender for the whole year at least somebody is organised! Good entertainment factor these mum get togethers. Went to book off and bought C some new books as she is bored of all hers we have read them all to death. Went home on subway with Takako in pouring rain and then had a nap while C slept. This afternoon had playdate over at Rachel's so walked there again in the pouring rain with Takako. Note to self-need new rainmac, mine is useless no longer waterproof in the slightest. Made Cliff pick up subway sandwich on his way home for his dinner as could not stomach smell or preparation of food. Got a second hand easyliving mag from book off so going to bed now leaving Cliff to watch Madagascar on the sofa what an excellent movie that is its the penguins "I like to move it move it" scene brilliant! ( Ok this blog is sad sad sad if I am writing about kids movies) need to GET A JOB AND MY LIFE BACK!!!!!

Relaxing Weekend
For me it was a relaxing weekend as Cliff both Saturday and Sunday took the monster out in the morning. Saturday they had a nice trip to the Shinagawa Aquarium although reported 2 weewee accidents but probably because of the excitement of seeing nemo and all those dolphins. Instead of putting feet up did a Nissen mega shop so I hope I don't have to go again for at least another 5 days the way cliff eats thru the fridge! Saturday afternoon Steph Ryohei and Roman popped over its been ages since we saw them as Steph has gone back to work at Waseda but she teaches 10 weeks intensively then has 3 months off so not too bad and gets day care for Roman. Roman and C played really nicely together and Cliff took them onto the balcony to "set nemo free" the balloon that I bought her this week and which we had promised to let fly back to his mama and dada in the ocean at the weekend. It was a big ceremony! Steph and Ryohei left around 5pm and then we took a cab to the Tokyo American club to meet Emma Stew and Ellie for dinner. I felt really sick though which is the norm pretty much the whole day these days just like with Charlize. Still looking on the bright side might help to keep the pork to a minimum! The good thing aout TAC is there is a play room right in front of the tables in the garden cafe restaurant so we can eat in peace while they play. Also they are mega kid friendly with highchairs an extensive kids menu and Thomas tank cups! We got back late around 7:45pm and c went straight to bed and so did Cliff and I!!! It was about 8:30pm and we slept until 7am the next day!!!!
Today Cliff gave me another morning off and took munster to Ueno Zoo. They came back at 12:45 charlize sporting a case full of penguins which she is now obsessed with. They give you the run down on what each penguin is its a whole tribe in a little plastic carry case and she took them to the bath tonight and made Cliff and I die. She had a wet flannel on one side of the bath for their bed where she would take each one and do the snoring noise and then suddenly she would go right up close to them and shout WAKE UP WAKE UP followed by MOVE IT!!!! No idea where she got the move it bit from but it was very funny to watch!
I cooked loads of food while they were out but couldn't bring myself to eat a bite of it so once they were back and fed and sleeping I wondered down to the Azabu square to the Japanese place on the corner for some fish, pickles white rice and miso. Rieko came and met up and we went for a green tea after but still felt sick so took a walk to Roppongi Hills by which time Cliff was up with monster and we met and walked to Hiroo park. Cliff wanted to have cake so went to the deli and Rieko departed for her personal training session as she has lost 4 kilos and is determined to loose a bit more. Picked up some lobster and bisque soup with whole grain rice from soup stock kitchen for C s dinner and headed home. When we got home gave a small present to C of a doctors set with stethoscope and all the bits which she insisted cliff and I be her test patients as she diligently took our temperature, listened to chest, examined stomach, minky (with some cream on it) gave multiple injections and then issued us prescriptions. We have been to the docs 5 times in 2 weeks so she really understand what its all about now!!
The roast lamb with rosemary is almost gone, made some nice roasty potatoes haven't had for long time. Its 9:15 so time for beddie byes.

TAC and Playdates
yesterday we had a mums coffee morning at School so they took Charlize for a couple of hours. First time to meet the other mums mostly Japanese with foreign husbands. Typically it was Emma and I doing most of the talking. Good that they are going to take C to the toilet with the Chrysalis group so that she is not held back with the potty training. Also asked for an afternoon ballet class as opposed to the one they run now from 12:30 to 1:30 right during nap time. Also its been a nightmare with the menu at school as the Japanese mums want Japanese food and the western mums more western and nobody can agree what should be served. I dont care, the food is actually really really good, very healthy no sugar and well balanced. If C doesnt eat it thats because she doesnt feel like it not because she doesnt like it. The kids are not even 2 yet so there will be days when they simply dont want it I think the mums are making a load of fuss over nothing. Still the school as its so expensive has to show it listens and acts on the feedback. So glad to have delegated the class leader role to Emma and Takako!!! They are moaning about it now though!!!
Emily and Alison popped over in the afternoon and C was grumpy I think she was still ill from the ear infection but after a poo (maybe constipation) she was soon playing dolls house with Emily again. They liked the box that Cliff had made in the morning into a pretend aeroplane!
Today C was in school again and I took Takako, Emma and her sister who is visiting from Korea to the American club where we had a lesuirely breakfast it was really nice. Shame its only gonna last 2 weeks until the trial is up as we cant rustle together 20,000 for the joining fee and another 800 a month ontop of that!!! It apparently has 10,000 members (has to all be corporate) as who the hell can afford that? The Japanese mums at my school probably who all own companies!!!
This afternoon had a playdate over at Silvia and Diegos in Azabu so just across the road. Silvia is expecting a boy in Februay and feeling really sick this time with the preganancy. Donna was there with baby Marianne so it was a mellow afternoon as the kids played ok Charlize is really play acting with toys and animals now so its a bit less intense although she ate all the cake and insisted she NEEDED more cake. When we got home she said she NEEDED cake for dinner too. I am afraid after Italy she is developing her dads sweet tooth. Still her fav foods are still brocolli carrots cheese and pineapple so I not too worries but think we need to have a break from the cake. C is in school again tommorow so off to the flower marlet with Sumire in the car as she has some students to teach over the weekend and I have never been so might be worth a nose around.
Caz sent a mail to say that baby Roman Bruce Townsend was born today but have not as yet had a pic. Also Sarah Maxs mum had Finnegan yesterday weighing in at a whopping 4998!!!
Feel a bit sick tonight probably overate a bit today. Need to watch diet carefully really dont want to gain too much pork. Right exhausted my new bed time these days is 9pm!!!

Back from our LOOOONG vacation
So we are heaing into the end of September and we have been back fr0om Italy and Thailand about a month now.This year we had a FANTASTIC holiday as more or less had people every week and Dad stayed pretty much the whole time. I had to get on his case alot about not baking in the sun and we avoided marys bar and cakes more than last year and infact I did loose miraculously 3 kilos only to discover last week that I am up the duff again hence at least explains why none of my clothes fit ALREADY!!! I really dont want to pork too much this pregnancy as had hard time getting weight off after Charlize. Some mums snap back after 2 months ( I was never one of the snapper backers..)
Cant get an appointment until 22nd October with Sakamoto the one and only doc that offers epidurals if you want it and delivers all the forgein mums babies. Thinking I may go with a just a Japanese speaking gyno this time at least I can get an appointment.
Cliff is reckoning he is "2 shot Trotta" . Guess thats his job done for the year then!!!
Since getting back it seems that everyone we know is sporting baby number 2 bumps. This time feel totally blase about it all just hope I can cope with madams demands when I am the size of a house.
Caz sent a really nice thank you letter for the stay in Italy. It was really nice having her there with Greg this year I cant belive they drove all the way from England and then she climbed up a mountain in her buffalos when she was so preggers!!! Typical Caz. She FB to say waters broke on friday but still no action and its monday. I know she wanted a home birth so watching for news. Next year should be like a creche in ceccano!!! Thea will have a blast with all those little dollies to take care of. Charlize misses her like crazy they played so lovely together this year and both their swimmimg came on in leaps and bounds. Charlize is NEMO her element being Scorpio is water and she can swim like a fish under and ontop of it with no fear at all it really is amazing.
Another milestone was Cs transition in early July after arriving in Italy into big girl pants. She is toliet trained now although I still put a nappy on her at night time although she does wake up dry. We had only one accident on the plane from Thailand to Tokyo when she had a nap and did a little wee.
She has been sick with ear infections, cold and candida as a result of being so run down so we have had 4 trips to docs this week ( medical bills are killing us).
Cliff had some major disappointment at work this week, promises were not kept, which has kind of overshadowed all the good news but I think after the year left to run on our time here in Japan is done we need to head for a different place more permanently and that if I can help it wont be the US. I really want my children to have a good education and good health care and hence I think Europe is a better bet for us. C is back at school but missed this week mostly because of illness. I was thinking to move her up as she is toliet trained and the other kids in her class are not, but I am not wanting to split her from her friends Ellie and Sumire. Will probably move her up in December then.
Got a 2 week trial pass to Tokyo American Club this week so we can enjoy the heated pool until novemeber. Karl also called me and we need to now plan Xmas vacation. I am thinking Disney land as when new born comes we wont be able to do that so easily.

Cant get an appointment until 22nd October with Sakamoto the one and only doc that offers epidurals if you want it and delivers all the forgein mums babies. Thinking I may go with a just a Japanese speaking gyno this time at least I can get an appointment.
Cliff is reckoning he is "2 shot Trotta" . Guess thats his job done for the year then!!!
Since getting back it seems that everyone we know is sporting baby number 2 bumps. This time feel totally blase about it all just hope I can cope with madams demands when I am the size of a house.

Playdates and end of Term
This week cliff has been away again in ORD so I tried to keep the monster out and about as much as possible so we could avoid the 5pm melt down!!! Loads of playdates this week (Melanie/Carter/Emi/Emma/Ellie on tursday afternoon. Takako and Sumire ( our neighbours downstairs) at Appi and the park this week, Emi Naomi, Melanie Emma on wednesday. Thursday with Diego Syliva, Takako/Sumire Emma and Ellie for Rhythmic gym class in Japanese at Nandemo jidokan. Theme was twinkle twinkle little star and Charlize was in the mood to speak Japanese so lota of kochi kochi and achi achi!!! This afternoon after school we met Alison and Emily in teh park and then did Appi. C made a lovely Tanabata display hanging lots of scribbled stars off some bamboo which we put in the entrance hall for daddy to see when he is home from Chicago tonight.
Rieko came over last night ( she had been sick for a week with stomach flu) and C was happy to see her again and drove her mad with the Mickey Mouse alarm clock that goes konnichi wa in very annoying girly Japanese voice!!
Only managed curves once this week and drank way too much coffee.. Did start to lay ironed clothes and water toys out on the spare bed but need to get ontop of packing as only a week till the off to Italy.
Today was last day of term at school and Sumire and Takako went along this morning for a trial and I think they will sign up for the summer school. The kids went in fancy dress with C wearing her lovely tutu and Ellie as superman!!! Just a note that C no longer even wimpers at drop off she is too excited to get in and start playing!! We went in early to pick the kids up around 11:25 so we could give the teachers their presents. Emma and I went halves on body shop gifts for Fuyuko and HMV voucher for Hadar ( he is performing at Fuji Rock this year!!). When we picked them up they were all sitting around the table eating out of a giant scooped out watermelon and C was very happy to see me but wouldn't let me out of her sight as Emma and I I were the last mums in as the door downstairs was locked and nobody around to let us in!!!!
So tomorrow off to Toyasu LALAPORT with Emma and Ellie and Rieko tanuki if she wakes up in time.
Cliff came home tonight bearing Barney DVD gifts and a little pony set with book also one called Goodnight Gorilla which we had to read approx 10 times...
Cliff down now and I am about to hit the sack too its been a long week!!!

Rinkai Koen and Disney with the masses
What a weekend! Cliff knowing that I generally do all the planning and organising for our weekends (and after the disastrous last weekend trip with Rieko to the supposedly Kimono Museum that was not to be-say no more..), he looked in my "Tokyo with Kids book" and decided on plan number 23. Ok and um by the way Julia could you please call the hotel, check price make reservation, work out how to get there and pack eveything including what I will need!!!!!
Anyway I of course lavished praise and admiration on his thoughtful selection and then set about planning, booking and packing.
We headed to the Kaisai Rinkai park which is one stop from Disneyland ( not that Cliff knew this at time of booking!) but you can see the magic Kingdom tower and 1000 resort hotels from the beach.
We had to schlep the baby bed because didn't have any, but I did call the hotel like a million times in the hope I could bond with the front staff so they would ( let us check in early, and give us a bigger and nicer room) this tactic usually works and of course it did this time too!
It was a blistering day on Saturday and with the jogger stroller packed to the hilt we set off on our adventure. The park is right as you exit the train station with Massive Ferris Wheel and, Aquarium, Bird Park, Beach with rock pools and mud flats, chuchu train running around and the Edogawa Seaside hotel ( where we stayed). Very nice and green and lovely. Hotel also highly recommend over anything Disney resort like. All massive rooms by Japan standard 50sqm all with balcony and a big ofuro in room and on 2nd floor. Very quiet and clean. Food in restaurant overpriced though as only place to eat is at the hotel or else trog to the one and only McDs at the station ( there is nothing else at all in the evening after 5pm all places in park close down). They gave us Room 317 which was an end of corner room which was probably about 60sqm with a passageway to the bathroom where we could put the munchkins travel cot so dark and separate from us in main room and noise.
Went to the hotel and they said we could check in early so she could have her afternoon nap in the room in the travel cot. We dumped off our stuff and headed to first stop the aquarium.
It was a very good aquarium all with the animals in natural like habitat conditions ( penguin tidal pool very good). She just went nuts again for the fish and really liked the big Tunas which even I was impressed by. Could touch lots of stuff including starfish, rays etc etc. The amount of aquariums we have been too cliff reckons she is gonna be a Marine Biologist!
After aquarium we fed her the kids meal in the restaurant which she ate every bit of and we decided to grab something later as it was too early to eat!
Checked in at 12!!! and she napped in the travel cot for about hour and half and we crashed too. Then afternoon we made our way out onto the mud flats on the wind swept beach which was alive with families and crazy kids catching fish, crabbing, swimming and generally going mad. She loved it, found a dead eel to poke and some bits of stick to bash crabs and anything that moved. she enjoyed being totally buried in mud ( but mommy for the record Cliff didn't)
After about 3 hours of play there decided enough was enough as tide came in quick and despite the 31degree heat the wind started to get cold!!! She had a tantrum about leaving but finally managed to strap her back in pushchair with cheese dip sticks! Headed to the train which took us on a 25 min ride thru the bird park. She was knackered though. At around 6pm we went to the hotel and she had another kids meal ( at least Jap style is good and healthy) and we all went to the big bath. She love loves Japanese onsen these days she thinks its a giant swimming pool!!! This time no poo thank god and only 2 old grannies from Shiga Kogen to contend with so we reminisced about Nagano 1998 Winter Olympics!!!
Once she was down at 7:30 we waited and then sneaked down ( leaving monitor on) for a Chinese course dinner. Not really very good they made one course using soba noodles in tomato sauce with seafood on it ( yuk!). Still it was that or Mcds at station. Thinking the MDs might have been better and cost so much less!!!!
We discussed the next day over our weird course menu and realising that we were a stones throw from Disney and she had never been and was maybe at an age to appreciate, we decided to bite the bullet and go. The forecast for next day was cloudy so better than the intense heat.
Got up early and headed off after a Japanese type Wetern breakfast buffet affair which she mostly smooshed. As soon as we entered the Park she caught sight of Winnie the Poo and went legging it as fast as her little legs could carry her after poo calling out his name!!! iT was so cute wish I could have got that on video!!!! Same for minne and mickey and all the other characters she could see and she was NOT frigthend off! However to have a picture with them you had to wait for about 25 minutes in a line!!!! We and close to 200,000 people must have been there that day.
The lines were stupid insane even for dumbo 1 and half hours!!! So we did Its a Small World which was amazingly only 25 min wait. She absolutely LOVE LOVED it. We walked toon town but she was so tired from all the excitement that by 11am she was snoring in the buggy. We found a quite place to sit near the palace and all took an hours rest. When she woke up though she was so hot and sweaty she didn't sleep very well but was excited to be there. The afternoon we managed just one more ride on the Western Canyon railway ( had some scary dark dinosaur bits) which she liked!!! and then the HEAVENS opened. We headed for some cover while Cliff headed for the rain jackets. Go her a beautiful Minnnie Mouse rain poncho with ears and we had plastic pacamac jobs but the madam would only keep it on for 20 mins and then its was OFF OFF OFF. So by that time with everything soaked and us exhausted we decided to call it quits and head home.
At home she went straight to bed and while she slept we cooked up some lovely pasta which she scarfed down around 5pm. She was out like a light at 7:30pm and so were we!!!
Today its monday and cliff is off to Chicago for a week AGAIN.. His mum is unfortunatley in hospital has 3 hernias under her disk.. We may have to leave for Italy earlier than planned but will see.
Emma and Ellie came round for lunch was was nice as C was pleased to see her little friend and I got a ctach up with Emma. Then this afternoon popped over to Ionahs to see her new pad ( its plush) 38th floor of Atago Green Hills Forest Tower., MASSIVE polished wooden floors probably 200sqm with great views although we sat out on the balcony but was feeling a tad dizzy and wouldnt let C out there with us!!! She had a lovely time hero worshipping Khaya and playing in her wigwam. Ionah gave me a Missoni hand towel to take home along with some more clothes from Khaya. I passed off my read books!!! Somehow I dont feel it was a fair swap!!!
On the way into the building bumped into my secnd floor neighbour Lesley with her 4 month old Vivienne and her lovely dog Bella with another nice Irish lady and her really really lovely dog Sugar. Charlize loved getting wet dog kisses from the dogs and had a nice cuddle with the baby!!! I had stopped by Lush on teh way home they have one in Roppongi and as no daddy for bath tonight bought her some bath bubble bombs so we took an hour long bath with all the toys..
Little Rabbit fufu and Fifi and the Flower top books later and she was out like a light. Still bit rattly in the chest though may have to get that checked,
Need to so some filling and get an early night. Hope Cliff can get back by friday but probably wont be till the weekend I guess..

I love you, you love me
So C has been under the weather with another cold courtesy of preschool I am sure. She was really poorly today as she kept asking for cuddles "cuddle cuddle" and even fell asleep in the buggy at 5pm on our way back from midtown with Rieko. Her singing is great though adn she particularly likes to dance randomly in the street and break into the Barney song, I love you, you love me. She knows when she is being cute mind!!!
Cliff was being a bit annoying today as yesterday night I went out with Rieko for 1 drink ( first in over 1 month) but think he felt a bit left out. Didn't stay long as it was Rugby playing at the Hobgoblin, just pooped into Donkey and bought some fabric softner at 11:30pm and then was home by 12 midnight but anyway. C made him a lovely Fathers Day card at school and I gave him from C and I a lovely blue polo top from Next that I bought with Emma in the 45% off sale. He was happy but was being a right moaner all day even Rieko told him he was being unreasonable and to zip it!!!! Anyway Rieko kindly cooked 1000 gyoza for dinner tonight with miso and tonkatsu and ebisu biru so happy stomach equals happy husband for time being at least!!
The weather has been terrible though. Cliffs mum and aunt/uncle somehow missed the rain but today it bucketed down and was 29 degrees with horrible humidity. I am hoping C is feeling better tommorw though or else may have to do trip to docs.
We went to Maxs mums massive house on Friday as she got all the caterpillar ttogether. It was nice to meet them. Yukis mum was really sweet but they are all seriously loaded, Yukis family own a mineral water company!!! Would have to in order to afford the school fees that are frankly stupid!!! They have now asked me to take up the position of leadership for Caterpillar mummies ( why me????) I am the most unreliable one there is, so think I am going to pass this duty onto super organised Emma.
C really is setting into school life well now she is smiling more in the pictures and has struck up a nice friendship with Sophia the older caterpillar who can talk and Hadar tells me they have really been having nice chats!!!
Charlize has become a bit too addicted to DVDs lately though and drives me crazy for either Barney or Elmo. I bought her the Elmo DVD where Elmo looses his blankie and she really relates of course because she still has her much needed BLANKIE BOO!!! I said I would never use TV as a baby sitter but I think I am guily as charges on the odd occasion that we are not outside.
Saturday we ventured over to Tokyo Dome and the amusement park. Not well layed out and not much for toddlers except carousel and teacups, but they do have the fantastic Toy Kingdom with every toy under the sun, She was in heaven. They have a girls corner with a shop with all teh plastc foods and play hoovers houses etc so they go nuts. They also have just wooden toy section another room just for boys with all train sets etc. We also found a really cool Swedish cafe called moomin ( with the white moomin as the mascot, great set lunch and very kid friendly) highly recommend. They do 300JPY bread nomihodai and its all really oiiishi just cooked kind.
Sunday I did dermatologist after goofing around on the grass outside Roppongi Hills with C and Cliff rolling down the hill which she could have done for hours if we let her and Cliff has the energy! We ended up having dinner at the cafe but C ate nothing as she was not feeling well. I legged it to hifuka who looked at all my dodgy moles and some are over 6 mm and may need to come out but nothing looking cancerous so relived.
Sent in my application form Japanes and English for the city hall position and will find out next week I think. Its 8000yen an hour with free babysitting so hoping I can get it!!!! Lets see.
Need to go and book Dads flight to Italy this evening. After his stroke he really seems to have beenmaking lifestyle changes. I bought him a 1 year gynm pass and they made him a program and he has been going 3 times a week, walking everywhere and eating better.
Also great news my cousin George had a baby boy ( all boys from my cousins!) Freddie Stanley Harper. Cool name. Both doing well and looking forward to the pics.

We went to Maxs mums massive house on Friday as she got all the caterpillar ttogether. It was nice to meet them. Yukis mum was really sweet but they are all seriously loaded, Yukis family own a mineral water company!!! Would have to in order to afford the school fees that are frankly stupid!!! They have now asked me to take up the position of leadership for Caterpillar mummies ( why me????) I am the most unreliable one there is, so think I am going to pass this duty onto super organised Emma.
C really is setting into school life well now she is smiling more in the pictures and has struck up a nice friendship with Sophia the older caterpillar who can talk and Hadar tells me they have really been having nice chats!!!
Charlize has become a bit too addicted to DVDs lately though and drives me crazy for either Barney or Elmo. I bought her the Elmo DVD where Elmo looses his blankie and she really relates of course because she still has her much needed BLANKIE BOO!!! I said I would never use TV as a baby sitter but I think I am guily as charges on the odd occasion that we are not outside.
Saturday we ventured over to Tokyo Dome and the amusement park. Not well layed out and not much for toddlers except carousel and teacups, but they do have the fantastic Toy Kingdom with every toy under the sun, She was in heaven. They have a girls corner with a shop with all teh plastc foods and play hoovers houses etc so they go nuts. They also have just wooden toy section another room just for boys with all train sets etc. We also found a really cool Swedish cafe called moomin ( with the white moomin as the mascot, great set lunch and very kid friendly) highly recommend. They do 300JPY bread nomihodai and its all really oiiishi just cooked kind.
Sunday I did dermatologist after goofing around on the grass outside Roppongi Hills with C and Cliff rolling down the hill which she could have done for hours if we let her and Cliff has the energy! We ended up having dinner at the cafe but C ate nothing as she was not feeling well. I legged it to hifuka who looked at all my dodgy moles and some are over 6 mm and may need to come out but nothing looking cancerous so relived.
Sent in my application form Japanes and English for the city hall position and will find out next week I think. Its 8000yen an hour with free babysitting so hoping I can get it!!!! Lets see.
Need to go and book Dads flight to Italy this evening. After his stroke he really seems to have beenmaking lifestyle changes. I bought him a 1 year gynm pass and they made him a program and he has been going 3 times a week, walking everywhere and eating better.
Also great news my cousin George had a baby boy ( all boys from my cousins!) Freddie Stanley Harper. Cool name. Both doing well and looking forward to the pics.

Bitte??
So have been struggling with the old German as Tante Heike and Uncle Klaus speak zero English. They seem very nice though and Charlize likes jolly old uncle Klaus alot she can already say his name and laughs whenever she sees him. They are only here for 7 days but went to Kyoto and weekend we did Omotesando/Heian Jingu and then Hamarikyu and Asakusa. Today they took themselves of on a free day, (they went without me!) to ginza to the Imperial Palace and then department stores in Ginza. Tomorrow its going to rain all day so maybe Kabuki theatre and a museum or 2. They leave already on Wednesday.
Charlize her speaking has taken off so much these days she is so so funny. Actually funny is one of her new words she uses it lots and is counting all the time but prefers 2, 4, 6 to 1, 2 3. she loves singing the Kokomo song, I love you you love me, Old Mcdonald, baby shark, whats the weather, days of the week,If your happy and you know it, twinkle twinkle and of coure her all time fav Alli Gulugulu from music together. She knows all the words to these little songs and now comands me "sing mummy sing" and says alot "cuddle mummy" or cuddle teddy etc and gives big cuddles and kisses.
School is going really well they did a trip to the park on friday in the super buggies and she seemed to like that judging from the pictures.
Today we did Nissen shop with C legging it around the store ( it was early so luckily not too many customers to annoy) and then went to music together friends and family class stayed only 30 mins as we had to pick up mobile phone which I left in Natalie's car after the baby shower on saturday at Louises ( yummy food and nice gifts!!) and then we met Anna and the kids at La Boheem for 500 yen lunch. It was a real explosion in there I know they must HATE HATE us.
Annas husband is the news correspondent that you see all the time on TV reporting on Japan and Asia so at least we know someone famous!!! This afternoon we went to Shiroganedai Park with Naomis and Emi as and C immediately discovered the water play area and got straight in. I had no clean clothes for her so had to take her home naked wrapped in my sweater. Got a few weird looks on the train. Also bumped into Saya and Millie. Saya looked like a skeleton so thin from no sleep but Millie looked nice and chubby!. They just moved to Shiroiganedai but of course Massod being Masood failed to tell us this!!!
So its late and I want a before 11pm night so signing over and out.

Pool Playdate
So Emma my dear dear friends sent out a mail and invited all the Tuesday mums to my place for a playdate!!! No worries except 1. Cliffs mum/aunt/uncle arrive next day and 2. We have white carpet throughout!!! Despite that fact we pulled it off with the stain remover making a guest appearance only twice!!! 23 adults and 15 kids!!! I had used a watering can to fill the paddling pool up with some semi warm water (took forever) as last time Cliff just did cold and Cs lips turned blue!!! The terrace is a sun trap and even though a cloudy day it was warm out there. I did ask everyone to bring shoes for the pool as last time it was oops lets try and avoid kids from smashing their heads open!!! Everyone turned up pretty much and C spent about 2 hours in the water playing lovely with Ashling, Zoe and of course Ellie. Melanie turned up with Jason and Carter fresh from the delivery suite with baby Emerson who was very cute. Despite the madness of the afternoon it was nice to see the group of friends I have made since arriving here under one roof having a lovely time. When Cliff got home he took C off on her trike for half an hour as pre bed routine now involves picking as many flowers from the apartments across the roads bushes as she can get away with and then throwing them down in the genkan for mommy on her return.
Wednesday Cliff was really ick so as a family we went over to Yuto clinic where C had her 18 month check ( screamed her head off even about just taking her clothes off for height and weight!) and cliff got 50,000 types of pills for asthma, cold, ear infection etc. We then had a quick lunch at La Boheme but C was very tired and grumpy after the doctors so relief to get he into bed. Cecelia turned up THANK GOD after the mess of the day before, and Cliff offered to take C to music together so i could go pick up tickets for Kyoto from Tennozu isle JTB for his mum, aunt and uncle. They arrived around 5 knackered and Cliff kindly failed to tell me his aunt and uncle speak NO ENGLISH and my German is really really bad so it was a bit of a struggle thru Thai Curry but they feel into bed as they had 5am start for Kyoto the next morning. Cliff was doing a Darthvadar special so I made him sleep on the sofa!!! C and I stayed home as she had school and traipsing her around Kyoto tourist attractions at top speed not my idea of relaxing!!!
Today Emma and I did nice Starbar and then a quick nose around Muji and Uniqlo!!! Looking out for a funky pair of wellies and nice rain mac!!! Haven't found THE ONES yet!!!

NEXT 45% OFF!!!
So today we went to Juban park early and there were not so many kids when we arrived but by 11am all the kindergartens were there and C was loving it. Her new fav thing is to go as high as possible with me on the big girl swings but she makes me go really high for around 30 mins and wont let me stop swinging or else throws herself down having a paddy fit. She got hungry though so we headed to La Boheme for the 500JPY pasta special ( yes 500JPY!) for spaghetti with salad bar and free drinks bar. We had to wait while they did their little gambatte routine before opening so we popped over to the square where there was a man wearing a sherlocks homes get up and a dog dressed to match. C wanted to pet the dog who was very friendly as was what turned out to be the actor shooting the weekly drama called potchan? I think. The Director started getting shots of us petting the dog and then asked us to go to the nearby cafe as charlize was looking exceptionally cute in her new GAP bargain 1200JOY dress! We sat outside in Eat More Greens Cafe, C was a star looking off into the distance or smiling as the camera centred on her sitting on her chair!!! Once they got their footage we headed for our lunch and met Anna and the kids who want to come with us next monday to try it so we made a date. At the resturant they asked me to translate the weekly special into english so they could attract more foreigners so I did it in 2 mins and will get a free lunch next week. Also found out that Anna has gone ahead and ordered an electric bike based on the go she had on mine on sunday!
After lunch and Cs lunch time nap, Emma called and we arranged to meet on the train and go to Jiyogaoka to do another NEXT 45% off run as she is an elite member and gets this special discount once a year. They had a nice terrace on the shop roof so we took it in turns entertaining them up there while we tag teamed shopped. We were in and out in 35 mins as the girls decided to run around and wreck the necklace display and play peekaboo in the dressing rooms!!! Ellie did a poo and Emma changed her in the dressing room!!! Piggy or Man Flu?
So Cliff just got back from 1 week away in Chicago but he is dying in the spare room with flu. Apparently the heat seekers came aboard the plane at Narita but only for economy and business but the lucky bugger was in First and of course FIRST CLASS PASENGERS ARE IMMUNE TO SICKNESS!!! so they just had a token nurse walk thru the cabin!!! I am hoping its just the nasty throat lurgie C had last week and not anything of the piggy kind. Will see how he is in morning and may send him for a test.
Its been a long old week with C being sick and out of sorts and now I have husband to add to the wounded sparrow list and his mum, aunt and uncle arrive on wednesday so need to get organised.
Hoping to go to Jiyogaoka in the morning with Emma to get more mileage out of her 3 day only 45% off NEXT voucher for elite members. Did manage to bag some nice second hand stuff at the church sale next the house on Saturday with C strapped to me in a baby Bjorn complaining heavily until I gave her some smelly dog keyring that they were selling for 10yen to play with!!! She wont let me wash it though. They were queuing around the block but I actually had the foresight to ask where the kids stuff was as soon as we went in and it was upstairs so by the time the old grandmas and Phillipinos had worked it out, I had bagged all the good stuff ( there wasn't that much this time mind you).
Wenji and Jenny made a surprise appearance along with Rieko so we had a good catch up ( Wenjie doing outpouring over shipping Jenny off to fathers in US) with R and I trying to offer help/advice. The good thing is Kazue san and Miwa still have not found a place to move into and they are getting kicked out of Initial house but Wenjie needs someone for the summer period to take care of Jenny while she works so they will move in with Wenji into Sun Palace, its 4 bedrooms so should be good situation for them all. Phew that is one less thing to worry about. Rieko, C and I went to mid town park and then hit the kids cafe for dinner in Roppongi Hills as they had a lovely washoku set dinner for 1400JPY which was yum and C had a really nice sunflower presentation kids plate which she scoffed while playimg peakaboo with a little boy who looked alot like Yuki her mate at school.
Speaking of school it was flower week this week and lucky it ws closed on thursday for teacher training as C was still sick. Friday though she had a good day and is still in loive with little Yuki as you can see from the pics!
Spoke to Melanie at lunchtime. She had Emerson yesterday apparently 2 pushes and she was out! She is doing good and looking forward to catching up and meeting the little princess soon.
Cliff has really scored big with C bringing her 3 new Barney videos. I think I want to kill myself now. I have already hidden them as she knows how to work the DVD player and will be grunting for her Barney fix in the morning.
Rieko and her mum and Dad also arrived the same time as Cliff got back around 5ish tonight, just popped by to see C who almost wet herself with excitement to see so many loved ones all at once. Rieko offloaded another ton of Japanese shoki on us, running out of cupboard space now.
There is an Instyle mag waiting for me in the bedroom so I am off for a hot date with my mag.

Icky Grumpy Pants
So Cliff is away for a week in Chicago for work and I am left with a grumpy icky Charlize. She picked up a throat infection ( which Ellie had last week) and both probably caught from School. She is on the last day of antibiotics today but been generally ratty and tired. Yesterday Cecelia came and all Charlize wanted to do was lay on the sofa and watch Barny CD on repeat. Being the bad mother than I am I willingly let her anything for a an hour of peace!!! Managed to get the curtains up, Ionahs designer sofa and plants got delivered while C was napping, but great timing as the elevator repair men came just as they rocked up in the truck!!! The poor buggers had to schlep everything up 5 flights of stairs. Cliff is going to have a eppi fit when he comes home on sunday to a living room with not 1 but 4 sofas! Ionahs one is pale grey the covers come off for washing( which I did) but the back is filthy from where Raffs, the cat and 3 kids have mangled it up. We need to get the whole thing recovered really, will have a look into the cost and decide depending on how extortionate it is!
We did do music together class just to get out the house but even Natalie Kai's mum remarked how listless she was. Putting her to bed last night was a nightmare she was hitting biting throwing herself down and would not have a bath she was too tired and ill.
Today she has a bit of a cough and again was a bit tired but I couldn't manage another whole day inside with Barney and mizhog Charlize, so we took the bus to the Tokyo American Club and met Emma and Ellie, Natalie, Lize with the girls, Melanie and Carter and Jamie and Jenny there for a brunch. Second prob was she wanted to go in the swimming pool which she could clearly see from the restaurant window. So much for a peaceful chat and cafe latte!!!
This afternoon Emma invited us over even though I was supposed to host mums at my house, but with Charlize being in an up down mood we decided to stay in as C didnt want to move from the sofa with her blankie so I did bad mommy thing and let her watch the Barney DVD 4 times!!! She is a baby possesed, but we had a real melt down when I tried to switch it off. I put the DVD up and away but she tried to climb onto the kitchen top to get it. She knows how to open the DVD player and switch it on!!!! Luckily Naomi and Emi came over around 5pm after Naomis Daycare and they had some dinner together and then got in the bath!!! They both looked so cute with the Naomi wearing teh duck hoodie towel and Charlize with her Little princess one! It was a good distraction and made life easier after the night before when she threw tantrums and would not go in the tub. Also Naomi gave me the number to apply for the International Relations job at the Minatoku ward office. Its only max 4 times a month 2 hours and they offer day care and the pay is good!! Have to write a Japanese essay to apply for it though which might be a bit tricky as my written Japanese is a bit rusty.
Other good news is Jolie wrote to say that she got to finally hold her little angels Gabriele and Vivienne after one week in the incubator. They are still having IV breast milk but seems they are pulling through well. I say another little prayer for them all tonight I know they are going to be fine and cant wait to see the pictures.
Tommorow is Emma's birthday and depending on how she is I may may not take her to school. Here's hoping for a better bedtime wind down this evening!!!
Also Fuyuko sent a really nice mail about Charlize today how she is settling in. I post it below as I think its nice to keep to show her when she get older!!

As we said at the dinner, and also you can tell from the photos, Charlize is settling down fantastically! She has already made some friends and they are playing very nicely together!
Charlize and Youki were playing together last Friday. They bonded particularly well and I saw Charlize giving lots of cuddles to him and they make a very cute pair. How sweet!!
I must also mention that both Hadar and I were impressed by how good Charlize was at cleaning up toys!!!
You mentioned that you were a bit worried about Charlize in the absence of her good friend, Ellie and that this might have made Charlize a bit sad. Well, it’s been quite the opposite and Charlize has not been anxious at all! Charlize has been stepping out and doing so well. This shows promise for great things ahead. Although she is so tiny Charlize is obviously ripe for more sophisticated mental stimulation and I am confident she will progress in huge steps, each class. Please don't worry!
